U11 Grand Final Report - (Submitted by Vicki Anderson) Tuesday‚ 28th‚ March
2006
U11 Grand Final
The U11's played Payneham at Payneham oval, we didn't get off to a great start the first week being all out for 67. Nick Anderson was our top scorer with 12 and Alex Anderson was retired for 11no, Alex Wright also batted well for 7no. The second week the boys fielded well and stayed really positive, this was great to watch. Nick Bridgeland who always bowls well on this pitch picked up 2/4 and Trent Dumont got 1/10. Payneham got the runs easily at 3/69 only letting 3 of their kids bat. Our team were great sports and everyone went back to the club for the Junior Presentation. Special thanks to Andrew B (coach) and Sean (asst coach) for making sure that everybody got to bat and bowl for HOPE VALLEY.
Junior Presentation
The Junior Presentation was held at the club on Sunday 27th, there was a great turn up with every player from 11's, 13's and 15's turning up. We would like to thank Paul Doolan who works for TINGARA BUILDERS as they sponsored our day which supplied the BBQ for everyone. All players in the 11's and 13's received a participation trophy and the 15's gave out the normal batting and bowling etc. It was a great way to finish off the season, with lots of the kids and parents staying late to play cricket on the oval.
A big thank you to all our coaches (Andrew B, Keldyn and Richard) this year who have done a great job. We have formed a Junior Committee for next season as it looks like we will have at least 5-6 teams. The committee is as follows; Vicki Anderson, Cheryl Radan, Andrew Bridgeland, Richard Hasse, Jill Marchant, Andrew Tingay and anyone else who is interested.
We will be running a Level 1 Cricket Coaching Course which will be compulsory for all Junior Coaches next year, this will be held for 3 weeks (6 till 9.00pm on a week night) over the winter at the club rooms we need at least 8 participants so please contact Vicki if you are interested.

Valley bow out of Grand Final Monday‚ 27th March
2006

If you haven't already heard, our A grade side went down to Concordia in the weekend's Grand final at Payneham oval. The match was anything from one sided however, as we came painfully close, only not quite close enough to clinch the match and the premiership. The last minute withdrawal of Andrew Dunn due to an unfortunate and untimely calf injury set the cat amongst the pigeons, and Murray Riddle was called in as his replacement, with Scott McInnes promoted to captain for the game. Not surprisingly, Scooter lost the toss and was predictably asked to field first on a batters wicket, in glorious sunshine.
John DeConno was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets, while Skiddy also bowled well taking 3 wickets. The fast outfield took its tool however, with late runs coming all too frequently through 3rd man as the total passed the magic 200 mark. At one stage Concordia looked like hitting 260+ when they were 7/234 in the 72nd over, but some good bowling and a one handed hanger from Barty saw the final score stop at 10/234 and it was game on. A slow over rate prevented us from having an late afternoon hit, which was probably a relief to the openers anyway.
The weather changed considerably over night as the hot sunshine gave way to gloomy clouds, and the possibility of rain continued to threaten throughout the day. The loss of Paddy's early wicket, trapped in front for 1 wasn't the ideal start but Paddys demise brought Murray Riddle to the crease, playing in his first A grade game of the season. Despite copping a nasty blow to the jaw which required some on-field surgery (and 5 stitches late that night), Murray and Michael Barton (playing in just his 2nd A grade game for the year) shared a good first session partnership, taking the tea break at around 1/85 and at this stage things were looking good. In the second all important session, Barty lost his middle stump to a yorker length ball having made an excellent 47 runs. From here in, Murray Riddle did most of the scoring, watching his partners come and go for not many as he past 50 and raced in to the 80s. By this stage the over rate was well over a run-a-ball and despite having 5 wickets in hand things started leaning in Concodia's favour. Murray's 100 was well received by all, receiving a standing applause from the respectful crowd, but in the back of everyone's mind there was more to be done as the required run rate approached 8 then 9 an over. The game teetered on the edge as Murray bludgeoned the ball in the final overs, finally succumbing to a superb, albeit dubious one-handed catch right on the far side boundary line. The umpires consulted one another, delaying their decision and increasing the tension in the crowd no end, before eventually taking the fielders word, ending Murray's brilliant innings on 119.‚ The tail did it's best to wag but it wasn't long before we required 25 from two overs with not many wickets left. Despite the encouragement from a strong, pro-valley crowd, the task proved too much and we were bowled out for respectable, yet painfully close 218. The mood in the change room was predictably sombre as we all pondered what could have been, but wasn't.

A3 Grand Final - Hope Valley Vs Concordia at Payneham Oval 12:30
The Hope Valley A Grade has cruised in to this week's Grand Final with a comfortable win over local rivals Athelstone on the weekend. Batting first on Saturday, the Valleys made a slow but solid start on a deck that did a bit early, taking the tea break at around 2/60. After the break however, the tempo was lifted thanks to a good partnership between Paddy (79) and Macca (36) who proceeded to belt Athelstone's solid bowling attack around the park. Eventually a rush of blood got the better of Macca just as he was looking to unload, skying a high ball to short cover which brought Captain-coach Dunny to the crease. Runs continued to flow with sensible batting rotating the strike, before Dunny was trapped in front for a well made 27. Scooter McInnes then strode to the crease and played a blinder of an innings, striking at well over 100 on his was to a quick fire 65, before he was caught at deep midwicket trying to hit another 6. Blake Appleby hit 13 before his off stump was sent cart wheeling, bringing Brett Madigan to the crease with 5 overs to spare. Brett wasted no time hitting the bowler back over his head and continued to strike the ball well as the score was pushed above 280. A four on the last ball of the day saw the final score rest at 287. The boys walked off the park to generous applause from the crowd before a being wrapped in cotton wool in preparation for the following day in the field...

Paddy steps forward to a delivery on Saturday on his way to 74

Macca prepares to belt another 6 over deep midwicket on his way to 36
With 287 well made runs under their belt, the Valleys took to the field on a picturesque Sunday afternoon knowing a grand final berth was up for grabs. Our bowling attack didn't waste any time, sending back one of the openers for 1, putting Athelstone on the back foot from the start.‚ Wickets fell consistently fell despite some missed catching chances and by the tea break the score was 5/50 and Athelstone were in trouble. A run out straight after the tea break thanks to a good pick up and throw from Blake put on further pressure, as wickets continued to fall. A mini revival saw the visitors score push past 170 as Macca had 22 runs taken off an over. Blake Appleby was brought in to the attack to finish things off, finally doing it in style as stumps cart wheeled from the ground ending the run chase at 10/181 - An impressive 106 run victory. home Final this Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th at Hope Valley Oval!
Congratulations to the Hope Valley A Grade Senior side who have finished top of the table and were crowned 2005/06 minor premiers! A narrow win on Saturday secured top spot on the Ladder and has also set up a home final this weekend.

Chasing 150 to secure top spot, we got off to a shaky start before a good partnership between Andrew Dunn (54) and Scooter (34) settled things down.‚ We were finally dismissed for 161 which was just enough to win.‚ In their second innings Old Ignatians were 6/58 at stumps with Blake adding another 3 wickets to his tally for just 7 runs. The full card for this game is here
The B Grade took on Adelaide High at their ground and had a good win. Needing 8 wickets for around 100, our bowling attack came to the party rolling the opposition with a few runs to spare. In the 2nd innings, Heath Weber found some last minute form, spanking the Adelaide High attack around for 74 runs. Despite this win, we have unfortunately just missed out on a finals berth, finishing in 5th position on the ladder. Full match card is available here
Needing an outright to have any chance of playing finals the C grade declared at 7/265 and sent Elders USA in to bat again. The team worked hard throughout the day following some unfortunate injuries to key bowlers, finally managing to bowl Elders our again for 148 ensuring an much deserved outright win. Unfortunately other games did not go in our favour and we finished just out of the finals in 5th position. The match card can be found here.
The LOCs had another win, defeating Old Ignatians at St Ignatius college. Kiwi took‚ 3/10 and Lairdy 3/30) . The match card can be found here.

Round 11 update Monday 5th March
2006
A warm and often hot Saturday morning greeted players on the weekend as all games got away with out a cloud in the sky...
Our A Grade are playing Old Ignatians at the Valley oval, (a win in this game will ensure a home final plus the minor premiership). Bowling first, our visitors were dismissed for 150 with Skiddy taking 4 wickets. In reply we are 1/10 with Nicko again at the wrong end of the stick. First of all he chopped a no-ball back on to his stumps which went to the boundary (i.e 4 runs to the batter thanks), but in the confusion was put down as 4 no balls, which was followed by a 'questionable' LBW (is there any other type?) in the same over without scoring another run.. Hard luck eh?

The B Grade had a tough day, batting first at Adelaide High OS. Needing a win to secure a spot in the finals, we were dismissed for just 136. Wish top scored with (yet another) not out score of 30, while James Nash and Pete Butcher blinded us with their pair of shiny, golden ducks. Rumor also has it that Richie was run out (for a duck) by a distance that defies comprehension. Adelaide High OS are 2/28 in reply.
The C grade are playing Elders USA at St Pauls. Needing an outright win (plus a small miracle) to make the finals, we won the toss in and sent the vistors in to bad on a road.. Fortunately the tough decision paid off with some good all round bowling seeing the visitors rolled for just 72. Best with the ball were Travis Rio and Ribba who took 3 wickets each. In reply with the bat, we steamed past Elders' first innings score taking 1st innings points before stumps were called at 3/180 with Joe Galina not out on 64 (inc 6 x sixes - new club six record on the cards?) and Mark Mirams not out on 55.‚ An outright is definitely on the cards here..
The LOC grade had a good win against Hectorville at Norwood Morialta high. Shurvs hit 76 (before hitting his head on the table at the club) and Lairdy hit his best club score of 86 in an innings of approx 210 runs.
Stats update Friday 3rd March

Updated Stats are now available for the A Grade side (to round 10) and due to popular demand we also now have all U/15 stats too! Check them out on the stats page..
As always, many thanks go out to Jeff Wishart for all our club statistics..
Round 10 round up Friday 3rd March
2006‚ Apologies for the delay getting these details up (I have been busy at work!)..
Unfortunately the rain has again affected matches this with just the As and Cs getting a chance to complete their games.
The A grade came from behind to win after Fullham were 0/70 odd chasing our 1st innings score of 210, thanks mainly to 'Johno the destroyer 'who took his best club figures of 6/43. Fulham were rolled for just 157 in the end, giving us a chance to grab some bonus points in a second innings in which we scrambled to be 6/84.‚ The match card can be viewed here.
In the C grade game, desperately needing to grab some points, the decision was made to declare in the first innings at 9 down (still needing 100 more to win), and set up a match where an outright victory was a possibility. PAOC declared in their 2nd innings at‚ 3/61 setting up a thriller with us requiring around 7 an over to secure second innings points. The game went to the wire finally culminating in a shut up shop approach to save an outright loss which was eventually averted by a very nervous Steve Pearson and Grant Bowen. Well done guys. The match card is here
Round 10 update Tuesday 21st February
2006
A Grade versus Fullham at Collins reserve, batting first made around 210. Dunn 83, McInnes 76.‚ Fullham 0/57
B Grade (0/16) versus RCP at the Valley. RCP 10/169. (Butcher 5/34 off 20, Chappy 3/30 off 13 & is on a hattrick next innings)
C Grade versus PAOC at Park 15. PAOC 8/190 (after being 8/130). Leigh Crowhurst 5/67 off 26 overs!
LOC Grade lost PAOC at St Pauls. (Score t.b.a)

2006
Club statistician Jeff Wishart has been hard at work and has provided some more stats for us.
We now have stats for our LOC team, U/11s, U/17s and everyone's favourite 'The Duck Cup', which this year is being headed up by club apprentice James Nash - who has a 50% duck rating (3 from 6 innings).

Many thanks to our club statistician Jeff Wishart for all our stats!
Round 9 roundup Tuesday 15th February
2006
Our A grade team has suffered its first loss for the season, narrowly going down to Payneham. Our first innings score of 193 wasn't quite enough, as Payneham managed to get our‚ score just before being bowled out for 200. Best with the ball was Blake Appleby with 3/39 off 23 overs and John DeConno with 3/46 off 23.3. View the score card here.
The B grade clung on to the hope of seeing some finals action with a big win over Ingle Farm. Our first innings score of 9/281 proved way too big for Ingle Farm as they were bowled out for 118. Pete 'cyrstal' Butcher and speedster James 'princess' Nash destroyed the Ingle Farm lineup, each taking 4 wickets. The card for this game is here.
The C grades first innings score of 174 proved not enough, going down to Grange at their home ground.‚ Despite a mammoth 29 overs by Trav RIo which included‚ 8 maidens and 4 wickets, Grange hit 227. Joe Joe Galina showed he can still roll his arm over, taking 3/34 of 9 overs. Keldyn Radan also bowled very well without luck, taking 0/14 of 12 overs. The full card for this match is here.
The LOC side had a comfortable win, chasing down Flinders Uni's score of 141 with 5 wickets to spare. Jordan Pepper was the best with the bat hitting 42 while Kiwi took an impressive 3/13 off 9 overs. The match card is here.
Round 9 update Sunday 5th February
2006
Round 9 got under way without a hitch on Saturday with perfect playing conditions for cricket. Here is a quick update (from memory) of the games in progress.
A Grade. Batting first against Payneham away, we made 190 odd, with Blake Appleby finally getting amongst the runs, hitting an unbeaten 58 - long over due! In reply, Payneham are 2/30.
B Grade. Last weeks drumming plus the mid week pep talk must have stirred something in the Bs - on the field and in the shed.... Batting first at the Valley, Barty and Muzza put on what has to be some sort of record opening stand, hitting 169 before the first wicket fell. Muzza was denied a ton, falling just a few runs short on 91, while Barty continued his excellent form, hitting 69 (and just in case you were wondering, yes, Muzza was out before Barty, so no change there). There were no ducks this week either, as we cruised to 280 against Ingle Farm.
C Grade. Batting first at Grange, the Cs had a great start with Aza and Crowy both hitting 40s at the top of the order. A 200 plus score was denied however, with the final wicket falling at around 180.
LOC Grade. Completing the quartet of all teams batting first, our LOC side raced to 185 with Kiwi finally hitting his maiden 50 for the Valley! It was a somewhat typical innings with the traditional dance down the wicket and block the first ball, followed by some lusty hitting, but this time it worked a treat. His innings of 58 included 5 sixes and a moon walk down the pitch when he hit 50. Just to ensure man of the match honours, Kiwi then proceeded to take a 5 fa, as Adelaide Uni were denied back to back victories against us, being bowled out for 130.
Round 8 round up Sunday 5th February
2006
Too hot one week, too wet the next.. Our weather affected season continued this week with a number of the reduced over games being abandoned after the game began. Fortunately, for those that just want to play cricket, there was time enough for a run on the park for at least a few hours.
Our A grade have continued their unbeaten run, rolling Marion at their home ground. Batting first, Marion could only manage 109 before being bowled out in the 31st over. In reply, we scrambled to 144 before being bowled out. Then, in a strange and somewhat controversial move, Marion declined to take to the field again, apparently gifting us an outright victory. This result is still provisional as I believe a protest has been lodged, however at this stage it appears the points will stick - so thanks guys. See the card for this match here.
‚ Our B Grade side had a a day they would rather forget, going down in flames against Pooraka. After being dismissed for just 85 (an innings which included 5 ducks, two of which where of the golden variety) Pooraka belted 1 for 153 from 42 overs before the rain prematurely ended the game. Although Pooraka definitely had the pick of the conditions with the ball swinging and cutting early, it was a disappointing and somewhat embarrassing loss. If you really want to see this match card, click here.
Our C Grade grade side had a frustrating day with an almost certain victory denied by the weather. Batting first, the Valley belted 190 from just 21 overs with Murray Riddle continuing his great form, hitting 93 not out. Our Adelaide High visitors scrambled to be 3 for 67 after 40 overs before the rain gods gave them a reprieve. The card for this match can be viewed here.
Our LOC side went down in a tough encounter against Adelaide uni at their home ground, with a ton and a 90 odd contributing to their score of around 297 (this is a 40 over match remember). In reply we hit ?? (which wasn't enough).
It's Hot, Damn Hot! Wednesday 25th January 2006
Due to e
xcessive heat, all Games scheduled to start on Saturday were cancelled, with one day matches scheduled for this coming Saturday 28th Jan. (The current forecast for this Saturday is low 30s)

ATCA Heat Policy Thurs
day 19th January 2006
Given the hot weather we've been having lately (and the fact that this Saturdays games could well be influenced by this policy), I thought I'd advise of the current ATCA policy on hot weather.
Senior Cricket - If the forecast temperature at 9:00am on the day of play (check the radio or Bureau of Meteorology website) is 40 degrees or higher, all senior cricket will be cancelled (except A1 Premier Grade.)
However, if SACA cancels A-Grade District cricket due to heat, A1 Premier Grade cricket will also be cancelled.
Any such decision will be posted on the ATCA's website homepage and the phone message service - just call 1900 950 598.
The same policy applies for Junior cricket, except the temperature at which games are cancelled is 38
Stats are up (to round 6)
Wednesday 18th January 2006
Our club statistician Jeff Wishart has been hard at work, compiling all of your season stats.
These stats are up to date as of round 6 which is the approx half way point (note that the delay in getting them up is due to me, not Jeff)
Check them out on the Stats page, or choose from As, Bs, Cs, LOCs,‚ U11s, U17s or the Duck Cup.
Round 7 round up..
Wednesday 18th January 2006
Round 7 was completed on the weekend in cool, overcast and occasionally rainy conditions (perfectly suited to bowling). The round was mostly disappointing for our club, with all but our (undefeated) A grade side going down.
A Grade Vs Athelstone at Torrens Valley oval - After batting first on a dodgy deck and hitting 189 (with captain/coach Dunny left stranded on 99no), our impressive bowling attack proceeded to tear Athelston apart, rolling them 90 on a much improved batting wicket. All the bowlers got in on the action, each taking at least one wicket. This victory leaves us clear in 1st place on the ladder. The full card for this game is here.
B Grade Vs PAOC at the Valley - Batting first we started well, before a later order collapse left us with a disappointing 143 and many overs short of our 80 over allocation. Not batting out the overs was eventually the difference, with PAOC using their bonus overs to put a 65 run dent in our first innings total. Defending 80 runs requiring 9 wickets was always going to be tough, however to our credit we bowled very well and gave ourselves every chance to win the game. Best with the ball was Troy Chapman, returning the impressive numbers of 3/42 of 15 overs. Unfortunately our fielding/catching let us down and the game slipped away from us. Although we managed to roll the visitors before tea, by this stage the game was over and we had 40 overs of batting practice. Barty continued his good form, carrying his bat in the 2nd dig to be not out 43, following on from 53 in the first innings. The full card for this game is here.
Our C team picked up their game having lost 3 wickets for just 4 runs chasing 170 against Flinders Park at Regency Oval.. Most remaining batters got a start, but unfortunately none went on with the job, with Rich Mellors top scoring with 30. We were eventually dismissed in the 65th over for 112. Flinders Park had a second bat hitting 116 while we took 8 scalps from the 30 remaining overs. Peter (Aka) Paker returned the best bowling figures in the 2nd innings with 4/19 off 6 while Steve (Pwacker) Pearson took at handy 2/8 off 4 overs. The full card for this game can be seen here.
Our LOC side took on Mercedes at St Pauls and were bowled out in the 37th over for 138. Best with the bat was Tula hitting a personal best of 46 and Murray Riddle who hit 38 but besides that, there was nothing much to write home about. The game was tight until the end, with the winning runs eventually being hit by Mercedes in the 38th over with 2 wickets to spare. Best with the ball was Lairdy who took 4/29 from his 9 overs. The card of this game is here.‚
(Last weeks LOC game also has now been updated, see below for write up and link to match card..)
Round 7 update..
Friday 13th January 2006
Welcome to 2006! The first round of games for the new year got underway on Saturday with a warm sunny day greeting the players. At the half way point of the round, a lot of the games are in quite precarious positions with a lot of work required this Saturday. Here is a quick run down on each grade:
A Grade Vs Athelstone at Torrens Valley oval - Batting first on a deck that was nearly declared too dangerous to play on we lost early wickets to be in trouble at 4/40 odd. Scott MCGuiness made 30 odd and Andrew Dunn batted well throughout the day but didn't get the support he required, eventually being left stranded on 99! Given the condition of the wicket, this was surely a superb innings. Our final score was around the 200 mark.
B Grade Vs PAOC at the Valley. After winning the toss again (5 from 6) Wishy elected to bat first. Michael Barton continued his run of good form, batting for the majority of the innings before getting a questionable decision (was it caught or LBW?) for around 60. The tail didnt wag and we were bowled out for 143. Given 16 bonues overs, PAOC went for the slap and at stumps are 1/65
C Grade Vs Flinders Park at Regency Oval. The Cs bowled first and in a very slow innings, eventually dimissed Flinders Park for around 170. Unfortunate timing meant we had to bat for 5 overs, during which 3 wickets were lost, leaving us at 3/4 at stumps.
LOC Grade - played United Districts at St Pauls. Batting first we made a reasonable 179 with M Gaskin top scoring wit 47. The game was quite tight, however United Districts eventually won with 2 wickets in hand. Best with the ball was Jordan Pepper who took 3/30 from 8 overs. The card for this game is here.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE & HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AT HVCC!

Round 6 results..
Thursday 22nd December
Well unfortunately the rain has yet again played a major part in this weeks round of matches, with only the C Grade getting a chance to complete their game. It was good however to see players from other grades getting out to support the C grade side at St Pauls.
At the approximate half way point for the season, our teams are doing very well. The A grade are still undefeated and are sitting pretty on top of the ladder . The B grade are still in a reasonable position on their table, and the C grade have moved up to third position following the weekends win. Our LOC side still have a bit of work to do, but are still in with a chance of seeing finals. Here is a quick write up on the C grade game:
The C grade had everything on their side at start off play, with a mammoth 311 runs to defend, thanks mostly to Murray Riddle's unbeaten 151 from the week before. The start of play was delayed due to the weather and a passing rain spell, but eventually got away around 130pm. As expected the deck proved tough to play on (for both bowlers and batters), with the ball popping at the batters and bowlers dealing with muddy popping creases and boots that felt like lead weights. The day turned out to be a drawn out tussle due to sporadic bowling‚ performances and batters determined to not get out. Goldeb Grove were eventually rolled late in the day for 214, with Ribba ending up with 5 wickets and Richie and Adam grabbing two each. After the game Richie led the boys in a strong rendition of the club song which was sung with much gusto! The full card for this match can be found here.
The card for the abandoned A Grade game is here and the card for B Grade game (that was also abandoned) is here.
Round 6 update.. Tuesday 13th December
Round 6 got under way on the weekend, and there was one standout performance from the weekend that just has to be mentioned up front.
If you haven't heard already, Murray Riddle carried his bat in the C grade innings, and walked off the field on Saturday not out on 151. I had the pleasure of umpiring for the majority of his innings (62 overs worth) and can honestly say that it was one of the best club innings I've watched. There was nothing overtly flamboyant, it was just a gritty knock which saw the good balls get kept out, and the bad ones (plus a few of the good ones) get punished to the fence. Congratulations Murray on a fine knock!
A grade batted first against Concordia at their home ground and were dismissed for around 230. Paddy top scored with 69
B Grade batted first against Walkerville at home, and were dismissed for for around 210
C Grade batted first against Golden Grove at St Pauls and were dismissed for 311
LOC Grade 10/149 (Beinke 37) defeated Mercedes 10/118 college at Waite oval. Full card can be see here.

Valleys bow out in 20/20 comp Wednesday 7th December
Our run in this seasons knock competition has come to an end as we lost chasing a mammoth 175 runs against Gepps Cross. We did reasonably well in the run chase, getting to a respectable 130 before we ran out of wickets.
Round 5 results Tuesday 6th December
Despite the prospect of yet another round being washed out, the second day of round 5 games were completed on the weekend. Unfortunately however, the club didn't have a particularly good weekend, with the A grade being the only side to bring back a favourable result with a good win over Brighton on their home ground. Our A grade side are still undefeated and are sitting in a great position on the ladder.
Batting first on the Brighton deck, our A grade boys put together an impressive first innings total of 10/267 with most batters making a contribution to the score. Heath top scored with a typical bludgeoning innings of 77 including a catch that was dropped over the boundary for six. In reply with the bat, the Brighton batsmen crawled to 154 from 80 overs, never looking like getting the runs. Blake Appleby was a star with the ball, returning figures of 4/26 from 21 overs including a second spell of 12 overs 4 for 9! See the full card for this game here
The B Grade took on Old Scotch at home and had a tough time of it.‚ Batting first, old Scotch made 288 which included a marathon 28 overs from Troy Chapman. In reply we battled to be all out for around 147 in an innings that included 6 LBW decisions and‚ 2 of ducks. Old Scotch enforced the follow on and we batted well in the 2nd innings to be 2/128 at the end of play. The full score card can be seen here.

Aza shows how he feels about his duck in the first innings..
The C grade played Unley at St Pauls and had a great start,‚ taking a wicket on the first ball of the day. The team bowled extremely well and ended up bowling Unley out early for 146. Ben Tombs did a great job keeping wicket (and may have found himself a new home behind the stumps). Grant Bowen returned with the best figures, taking 4 fa. Using our bonus overs, at the end of day one we were 0/30 odd meaning we only required 110 or so runs with a full 10 wickets in hand. Unfortunately the following week was a bit of a shocker, as we crumbled to be all out for 106. The score card is here.
Our LOC grade had an disappointing day when only 8 players turned up on the day, one of which was injured fill in Richie Mellors (who did a great job behind the stumps all things considered). Woodville Rech made 9/154 and in reply we were bowled out at 7/69. Given that others have been missing out on getting a game each week, this is extremely disappointing to hear. The card for this game can be seen here.

Round 4 Results Thursday 24th November
After round 4 the club is travelling very well. Both our A and B grade sides are still undefeated and other sides are still travelling well despite having losses on the weekend.
The A's (10/194 & 0/0)‚ bowled first and defeated Grange (10/73 & 6/114) at Grange. Dunny hit 91 and Blake and John Deconno got 5 wickets each in an innings! Full card available here..
Bowling first, the B grade (10/274) demolished SPOC (10/102 & 2/65) at the Valley with Chappy getting 6/31 off 17 in the first innings. Best with the Bat were Michael Barton (54), Muzza (43), Pete Butcher (45) and poor old Wishy left stranded on 49 no - I wouldn't have done that to you Wish! -Ed.‚ ‚ The full card for this match can be seen here

‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ Chappy had a great day in the Bs first innings win‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ Wishy is happy with the score card next to him‚ ‚ ‚
The C grade played Pooraka (10/208) at Pooraka and had a tough time of it. Bowling first Pooraka hit 208 with Trav Rio the best of the bowlers returning figures of 3/33 of 12 overs. In the second dig, a rather strange score card shows the valley finishing up at 5/67 with Brett Crowhurst not out 50 and the other individual scores being 1,1,5,1,1,6. The full card is here
The one day side took on PAOC (8/147) at St Pauls and had a dissapointing day. Our home side only managed to hit 85 before being bowled out in an innings that only saw two batsmen get double figure scores. DOug Colman was the best of the bowlers getting 3/34 off 9 overs. Check out the card here

Valley's progress to second round of 20/20 knockout Tuesday 15th November
Our boys have knocked up an impressive victory against Athelstone in the‚ first round of the ATCA 'Turf Twenties' competition, earning themselves a spot in the second round.
Bowling first, our home side did well to restrict the visitors to 10/109 from 19 overs. Fielding highlights were a stunning catch by Andrew Dunn that was lost in the sun for all money then miraculously caught at the last second, a lively spell with the new ball by Scott McInnes and Heath Weber denying himself a chance at a hat trick by taking the last two wickets in successive balls‚ - couldn't happen to a nicer guy - Ed. :)
In reply the Valleys batted well, losing just 4 wickets in the run chase which required just 16 overs batting time. The winning runs came in the form of a six off the bat of Simon McPhee, which slammed in to wall of the club rooms much to the joy of the home side supporters. Joe Galina continued his good form with the bat finishing not out on 28, while Macca top scored with 38 not out. The full score card for the match can be found here.

Round 4 update Wednesday 9th November
Round 4 games got away without a hitch besides the LOC grade who were washed out despite the beautiful weather on the day. This just gave the guys an excuse to come down and watch the B grade at home, which must have helped because they rolled the opposition...
‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚

‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ LOC's didn't get a start at St Pauls..‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ Wishy is happy with the score card next to him‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚
The A grade batted and finished up at 10/193 with Andrew Dunn again finding form hitting 91
The Bs have already wrapped things up and are 4 for 120 odd, with Troy Chapman nabbing career best figures of 6-31 and Michael Barton finishing on 47 not out. Muzza did well too, hitting 42 in a 80- run opening stand with Barty.

The C Grade batted but im not sure exactly what ended up happened. Watch this space...
20/20 Knockout Cup game this Sunday Wednesday 9th November
Just a quick reminder that the Valley will be hosting the first round of this seasons ƒ¢‚€‚˜Turf Twentiesƒ¢‚€‚™ 20/20 knock out cup matches this Sunday 13th November. There will be two games, one of which will feature our boys battling it out for a place in the next round. Last season we made it through the semi finals, so weƒ¢‚€‚™re hoping to go a step further this time around. The first game is at 11am featuring Adelaide Uni Blacks versus Unley Gunners with our Valley Demons taking on Athelstone at 2:15
There will be a BBQ lunch and beers flowing so weƒ¢‚€‚™d love to see you there to help cheer on the valley boys. We are also using this event to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our A Grade & B Grade Premierships of the 1995/96 season so there should be a few old faces around too. These games are fast and furious and a heap of fun, so we hope to see you there!

A ton from the Dunn & another from Joe Joe! Wednesday 9th November
A magnificent century from A Grade captain and club coach Andrew Dunn saw the A grade set up their first win in their‚ first completed game for the season.‚ Against Hectorville at the Valley, Dunny hit 115 from just 104 balls in a classy innings that was great to watch. The innings set up a good score of 248 from 50 overs batted. Our bowling attack then then proceeded to bowl out the vistors out for under 100 to take an emphatic victory.‚ Full score card is here.

A Grade score after 50 overs - more than enough!
The B Grade took on Pembroke at Oval 17. Wishy won the toss for the second time in a row (which he thinks is a record), and chose to bat on a pearler of a deck. Barty and Muzz put on 56 before the first wicket before new comer to the club Troy Rhodes (79) shared in a 114 run partnership with Rowdy (34). They lost there was a little towards the end with Keldyn getting a golden duck and Jimmy a Diamond duck, and ended up with 8/210 after 50 overs. With the ball Pembroke got off to a good start at 1/69 at drinks before an inspired captaincy move saw Hanger Harney brought in to the attack putting the brakes on things with 1/31 from 10. Pete Butcher also bowled well, finishing with 1/31 Troy Rhodes completed a great first game with 2/35 from his 10 overs. James Nash also bowled well in his first game finishing with 2/35 and new comer Sean Williams fielded like a terrier. eventually the home team ran out of overs, finishing 11 runs short at 8/200 ensuring another victory to the Valleys. Score card here
The C grade took on RCP at St Pauls. Bowling first, the home side was a little loose with the ball and the visitors managed to get to 9/193 from their 40 allocated overs. In reply, Aza and Brett Crowhurst got the team of to a flier before Acker (33) and Richie Mellors (77) came together for a great partnership. Richies 77 was his highest score for the club and Im sure we're going to hear all about for a while yet. The great start set up a great score, and the home side easily won the game, finishing at 7/226. Score card is here

The Master hit 77 in the C grade win
The D grade played Old Scotch at Scotch Junior school, and what a score card this is! You'd think Joe Gallins 153 runs (including 16 sixes!!) would help set up a win, but you'd be wrong. Finishing at 10/224 the Valleys probably had every right to think the game was all but in the bag, but the deck must have been good, as Old Scotch hit back with 226 of their own from 38 overs to take the game away from us. Despite the loss, Joe's massive score deserves a heap of acknowledgement. Well done Joey! Score card can be found here
Rain:3 Cricket:0 Monday 31st October
Despite the promising build up of great weather throughout the week, the rain came down on Friday night and unfortunately it was just enough to prevent any of the teams getting away to a start. The rain has now interrupted almost all of the first 3 matches of the season, with some players still yet to even walk on to the park.
‚ ‚ ‚

(Above photos from the B's ground Saturday morning. The deck is a pearler, rumored to be prepared by Les Burdett's apprentices..)
We made the most of it however with a few beers at the Highbury followed by a Sausage Sizzle up at the Valley.

Here's hoping we get a start next week for the one day game...
Round 2 Results‚ Wed 26th October
Well unfortunately the weather has again played the biggest part in the weekends matches, with all but the C Grade game being washed out/drawn. The A grade did get a brief start, but the game was called off soon after it commenced.
The good news however, is that of all the complete games we are still undefeated, with the LOCs winning last week, and the C grade falling short of an outright victory this week against Elders.
There are a few players that deserve special mention. Ross Gibbons returned match figures of 8/38 (from two innings) in the C Grade game at Elders UniSA, while Lairdy got an amazing 5/9 in the first LOCs game. Michael Barton also hit the first club 50 for the season in the Bs game at the Valley last week.
All results and links to the complete match cards can be found on the results page.
Here's hoping the weather stays away this week!!
Nets get resurfaced..‚ Wed 26th October
Well almost.‚ The old matting has been ripped up and the surface has been cleaned, Paddy and Blake are just waiting for a period of good weather before they lay the new matting. The new matting should be complete in the next week or so.
Round 2 Update‚ Tues 18th October
Round two got underway on Saturday without a hitch. At the half way point, here are the scores for each grade:
A Grade (v Unley): Unley 10/201
B Grade (v Flinders Park): Hope Valley 8/189 (80 overs)
C Grade (v Elders USA): Elders 10/50 Hope Valley 6/112
LOC: defeated Walkerville (scores tba)
Rain:1 Cricket:0‚ Tues 11th October
As you are all no doubt well aware, round one was a wash out. The next scheduled game is a two day match, starting on 15th October.

Richie's van goes walkabout‚ Tues 11th October
Thursday night training turned sour for Richie Mellors when his van mysteriously appeared on the far side of the valley oval.‚ No one knows who it was that committed this heinous act, which required Richie (with his bung knee) to trudge across the oval at night to retrieve it, but if anyone knows who the perpetrators are please let me know so i can buy them a beer!
‚ ‚

Tuesday/Thursday Training starts!‚ Thursday 29th September
A quick reminder that normal Tues/Thurs training has started at the club. Training starts at 5pm and will probably continue until we run out of light. Also another reminder that the first game for the season for all grades (besides the one day team) is October 8th. LOC's first game is 15th October.
See you there!
2005/06 Fixtures released!‚ Tuesday 27th September
The fixtures for the coming season have now been released by ATCA. Looks as though the first game for the year is a one day game for all grades.
Highbury Hotel Secured as Major Sponsor for 2006 season!‚ Tuesday 27th September
Your committee is very pleased to announce that the Highbury Hotel has agreed to continue their association with our club for the forthcoming season. This is obviously great news and it is very important that we repay our major sponsor wherever possible.

Welcome to Season 2005/06 - September 2005
Preseason training has already commenced (apologies for the delay making this information available here), so check out the fixtures pages for the remaining dates, times and venues. If you are not aware, Andrew Dunn has been appointed Senior coach, and is being supported by club stalwart Richie Mellors.
Preseason training has been encouraging with some good turn outs and some new faces. Many of the new faces also appear to be quite talented, so with a bit of luck season 2005/06 is shaping up to be a successful one for the club.
Remember the first game of the season is October 8th!
New Senior Coach Appointed! - ‚ Tuesday‚ 28th June
