A Grade - HOPE Valley has stamped itself as a genuine finals contender following a commanding victory in its A2 Adelaide Turf match against Walkerville on Saturday. Fielding first in the one-day game at Walkerville Oval, Hope Valley took consistent wickets to roll the Cats out in just 32 overs for a paltry 107.Medium pacer Troy Chapman returned the economical figures of 4/10 from his 10 overs while Brett Madigan took 4/30.The Demons chased down the meagre target with ease thanks to a century opening stand between Alex Gentile (44) and former State 2nd XI player Darren Reeves (80).Ashley Sykes (27), Simon McPhee (22) , Madigan (18 not out) and Jeff Vaughan (17) joined all got starts as Hope Valley reached ... at stumps. .Demons skipper Simon McPhee said it was encouraging to kick the season off with a win. ‘’We are looking forward to bringing that sort of form into the two-day games,’’ he said
B Grade - Tba
C Grade -A great start for the C grade lads with a convincing 88 run victory in a one dayer against SPOC. After losing the toss & being sent in on a slowish track, Hope Valley got off to a good start with a 50 run partnership between Andrew Murray (23) & Adam Gourlay (33) in his Valley debut. After a bit of a collapse to see us 4/78, Wattsy & Skiddy had a good partnership of 63 with Wattsy (64no) & Wisha (11no) brought it home with 29 runs from the last 3 overs to post a very competitive 6/185 off the allotted 40 overs.
SPOC were in early trouble at 2/2 thanks to the young opening attack
of Matt Heading & Matt Benger taking a wicket a piece. The Valley’s
were on top all the way with the ball & in the field to bowl out SPOC
for 97. Best with the ball were Matt Benger with a man of the match 4/17,
Richard Holt (pommy) fresh off the boat from England with 3/13 & Matt
Heading 2/40

Round 2 Round Up 2008/09
A Grade -In the first innings after the farmers were 5/165 at tea looking at a big total we knocked them over for 234 Vanders with 4/40 was our best apart from an unlucky Troy chapman who bowled well all day ,Chasing Farmers’ 234, Hope Valley made a solid start and was 3/189 thanks largely to a century by Demons skipper Simon McPhee (111) and contributions from Ashley Sykes (44) and Heath Weber (39). But without star batsmen Jeff Vaughan and Darren Reeves Hope Valley lacked depth and lost its last seven wickets for 40 runs to be all out for 229 – just six runs short of victory.
A jubilant Ingle farm faced 16 overs in its second innings and crashed to be 5/34 at stumps with 1st gamer Nick Greening taking 3/4 in his best return yet giving us a boost into the next game.

C Grade -After losing the toss & being sent out into the field
the Valleys struck early with Matt Benger getting the snick in the 1st over
to have Woodville South 1/4. The visitors consolidated to reach 2/85 before
a middle order collapse had them 8/115. A late flourish from their tailenders
saw them end up with a respectable 205. Young off-spinner Nick Massacci
took 3/21. The Valley chase got under way in fine style with Adam Gourlay
& Dan Seljan cut into the deficit reaching 0/40 at stumps.
Dan the Man & the Big Fella continued on to set a great base for the
innings with a 72 partnership, Dan being dismissed for 28. Adam kept going
to make his first ton for the club finishing up with 103. Matt Selvanera
came in at 3 and batted beautifully to make 49, Mark Wishart ended up 54
not out, Matt Heading made a useful 19 & young Nick Massacci (12) hang
around with Wisha to put on 48 for the last wicket. A highlight of the day
was a 2nd consecutive duck to Rich "The Master" Mellors which
certainly proved a crowd pleaser! The Valleys finishing with an imposing
316. 2 wins out of 2 for the C grade!

LOB Grade -
After completing their month long tour of Adelaide, The LOB’s played their first home game of the season on Saturday.
Obviously keen to get a look at what St Paul’s would be dishing up this year, almost the entire team was early to the game –an almost unheard of statistic at this level-.
Captain Jo Jo Gallina continued his phenomenal run at the toss taking his tally to 7437 losses for one win ( even that was controversial) and once again, The Valleys were asked to field.
Brighton’s openers put up some resistance early and were helped considerably by some sloppy catching. I wont mention any names (P Whacker) as they know who they are until Kiwi proved beyond doubt that Sh*t does indeed get wickets having a horrible half tracker well caught by rookie Brad Goulter.
After the initial breakthrough, things picked up in the field
and some snappy catching and throwing had Brighton reeling at 6/60 odd
at drinks before being bundled out for 118.
Kiwi was the pick of the bowlers snaring 3/25. He was well supported by
our English connection Ritchie “Harold” Holt who bowled well without luck
(refer to earlier comments about catches) before cleaning up the tail.
Along with Sykesy he finished with 2 wickets.
Chasing a small total is never easy, not that anybody bothered to tell Azza as he dispatched the first ball of the innings to the boundary. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to tell Azza not to hit the ball in the air either as he was out soon after trying to repeat the dose.
JoJo threw the batting order around in order to give some guys a hit, which like all good intentions can sometimes come back to bite you in the arse. Sykesy was being the rock around which the innings was based, but wickets continued to tumble. Crowey copped a jaffa, Tickets had his stumps splattered, Kiwi and JoJo caught on the fence, Brad’s stumps went everywhere and Sykesy was well caught for 31.
18 to win two wickets left and it was looking like we had once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. P Wacker had other ideas however and along with Tombsie, saw the boys safely home finishing on 6no and 13no respectively.
Another bullet dodged another game in the bank.
All in a days work for the mighty LOB’s
